Innovation and Intellectual Property Management (IIPM) Laboratory

André joined the Institute for Manufacturing as a visiting PhD student in the Innovation and Intellectual Property Management Lab. His research focuses on data-driven strategic decision-making in global battery technologies, with an emphasis on geostrategic issues. Specifically, he uses data science algorithms to extract and visualise hidden patterns from large datasets (e.g. patents, scientific publications or funding project data) to support strategic decision making by executives and policy makers in the European battery industry. During his three-month stay at the IfM, his research project is dedicated to identifying geostrategic pathways for the European battery industry to compete in the global technology race for post-lithiumion battery technologies. This involves analysing the patenting and funding strategies of the world's leading economies.

André is currently pursuing a PhD in Business Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany, while also working part-time in the Patent Strategy Department of the Fraunhofer Research Institute for Battery Cell Production in Münster. He holds both a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Business Chemistry from the University of Düsseldorf, Germany. Throughout his academic journey, André gained practical experience at eminent chemical companies such as Evonik AG and BASF SE. As part of his undergraduate studies, he had the opportunity to spend time abroad in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
