Innovation and Intellectual Property Management (IIPM) Laboratory

What a fantastic conference it was this year in Pisa. Caterina Sganga and her team really hosted an excellent EPIP conference at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa (Italy).

The IIPM Lab was represented by Prof. Tietze and Geoff White. On the first day of the conference, Prof. Tietze was involved with the PhD Workshop helping PhD student with developing their work and networks. He also sat on the career panel together with Andrew Toole (Chief Economist, USPTO), Irene Calboli (Texas A&M University School of Law) and Tanya Aplin (King's College London). Prof. Tietze also served on the jury for the Young Scholar Award for the economics/management field.

During the conference, Prof. Tietze shared initial results from an exploratory project to identify IP instruments that are deployed by governments and companies to win global technology races. Geoff White presented initial findings from his ongoing interview study to better understand how decisions along the patenting process influence the value of resulting patents, particularly with an interest in the strategic value of patents.

On top of this, Prof. Tietze met with Dr. Matteo Loporchio from the University of Pisa for discussions related to our collaborative "Climbing ALPS" project, while Damiano was unfortunately in Japan and could not join.
