Innovation and Intellectual Property Management (IIPM) Laboratory

Many congratulations to soon-to-be Dr. Alexander Moerchel, who successfully completed his viva only with very minor corrections. His thesis is titled “Intellectual Property Management in Innovation Ecosystems – Developing Visual Methods for Mapping Dynamics, Uncertainties and Risks”. Many thanks to Prof. Tim Minshall, who kindly agreed to serve as his internal examiner and Prof. Cornelius Herstatt (Hamburg University of Technology) as his external examiner.

Alex’s thesis is an exemplary piece of work, not only in terms of quality, but also in context of CTM’s history. As an essential part of his research Alex developed a new practical method that can be used by different innovation system stakeholders, such as firms and policy makers to visualise emerging dynamics in innovation ecosystems and identify implications for organisations’ IP risks and opportunities. If you are intrigued, why not take a look at the two papers, which Alex has already published about it:

Moerchel, Alexander, Frank Tietze, Leonidas Aristodemou, and Pratheeba Vimalnath. (2022) ‘A Novel Method for Visually Mapping Intellectual Property Risks and Uncertainties in Evolving Innovation Ecosystems: A Design Science Research Approach for the COVID-19 Pandemic’. IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, 1–13.
